Who we are

RECOVER is a national research initiative from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The federal government recognizes the impact of COVID and has asked for an official set of rules to be created to evaluate the long-term symptoms people are reporting.

Illinois is one of 30 study centers nationwide that will develop best practices for people with difficulty recovering from COVID.

Patients as research partners

The Illinois Research Network investigators are proud to work with patients with Long COVID.

Some patients with Long COVID who volunteered as study participants have established the ILLInet PARticipAnT Research wOrk grOuP (also known as PARATROOPers).

ILLInet PARATROOPers mission

  1. Inform research performed by researchers. Provide input on the design and implementation of the study and clinical trials based on our lived experience.

  2. Foster a sense of community and communication between researchers and patients with Long COVID.

  3. Advocate for those who have Long COVID in our communities and help inform/educate the public about Long COVID.
